Book at Google books
At Google books there are some books you cam read on your pc, ipad. tab. or smart phone. The Mormon Battalion is a good read by B.H. Roberts. You can read without buying this book and a few others.

Charles Byron and Matthew Phelps Fifield
Charles Byron Fifield is my Great Grandpa Matthew Phelps is his brother,their father Joseph Levi Fifield is my Great Great Grandpa, Sarah smith Fifield is the second wife of Levi, His first wife and my Great Great Grandmother Amy Tracy died in Nauvo from a lightening strike.
Levi marched with the Mormon Battalion to San Diego then to Los Angeles, then to northern California east of Sacramento where he worked at Sutters Fort he was a Blacksmith and was one of 3 men that found gold at Mormon Island starting the gold rush of 1849.
Charles Matthew Sarah and William were to come to Utah by themselves, they traveled with the first wagon train to come to the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. Here is a list of the Men Women and children in that wagon train
Here is some entries in a journal of a member of that wagon train..

I just visited the Mormon Battalion Monument at the This is the Place park it is a very good monument worth going to see.
